Guarding my heart

My favorite scripture is Proverbs 4: 23 ” Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life”

Each year I grow and learn more in Christ, I understand the importance of guarding my heart more and more. In a world where there’s no standards, no accountability etc., it is so very easy to get caught up in what we see and lose sight of the bigger picture. Our hearts are precious, everyone isn’t deserving of having it.

There’s another version in the King James Bible of this same scripture that says
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

What I love about this version is that it lets you know that your heart is the source of your life. This version of the scripture, helps you gain a different perspective on how you live your life and the people you let in it. Think about if you protected your heart a little more than you did, we would probably have less drama, less heartaches etc. I learned years ago that I must have a deeper assessment of the people and things that I allow to enter into my life. God reminded me that I was careless with my heart and let people in who I knew wasn’t good for me. The hardest part was accepting that I caused my own pain many times, and that feeling wasn’t a good one. My issues flowed directly from my heart, and it made me take a step back & look over my life.

My vision is clear, my mind is free, and my heart is guarded over all else, because it truly determines the course of my life. God doesn’t make mistakes, he understands just what we need and don’t need in our lives. The bible is our guide that directs us throughout life, it’s the course that he wants us to follow. With that being said, through prayer, faith, and the right circle of positive people in your life, you will be ok.

*Guarding your heart isn’t just tailored for “people”, anything that is contrary to what God wants for you is what you should guard your heart from.

PRAYER: Father God, grant us the serenity to accept the things and people we cannot change, the courage to change the things that we can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Help us to have discernment about what people we allow in our lives, grant us wisdom. Give us strength to let go any and everything that isn’t good to us and for us. Most of all, help us to see the bigger picture as to why it is so important for us to guard our hearts above all else. In Jesus Name, Amen.
